What groups/charities are eligible?
Qualified organizations include federal, state, and local governments (including school districts) and 501(c)(3) organizations organized and operated only for charitable, religious, educational, scientific, or literary purposes, or for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals.
What kind of shifts are available?
Taste of Madison needs over 1,000 volunteers to help the event run smoothly! There are lots of shifts for individuals, and plenty of opportunities for groups to volunteer together.
We have a group with a lot of young people, what can we do?
All volunteers must be at least 14, or 10 with the supervision of a parent or guardian. Young volunteers can sign up to work in grounds maintenance, refrigerated truck supervision, or volunteer parking garage attendant.
How many hours is a typical shift?
Shift times for all positions average 3.5-4 hours in length.
Can an individual sign up to work?
Yes. Individuals can sign up for any general volunteer shift. Those interested in working in a beverage stand must sign up with a group.
Running a beverage stand sounds fun. What do I need to know about that?
Charitable groups can request to be assigned a beverage stand, provided they can commit to staffing the stand at least one day. Madison Festivals provides booth space and product for 10 beer stands, 4 wine stands, 4 malted liquor stands, and 8 soda stands.
During each shift, beer stands require 12 people, soda and malted stands require 6 people, and wine stands require 3 people.
Each shift, one group member will need to attend a Supervisor Orientation, facilitated by Madison Festivals, to ensure proper money handling and stand operations. A different group member will need to hold a responsible alcohol service certificate, to supervise safe alcohol service during event hours. This person will also need to attend a Server Orientation.
All beverage stand volunteers will receive a group rate, which will be donated to their designated charity. All tips will be collected in secured boxes in beverage stands. Tips will be collected and counted by Madison Festivals, and then 75% of tips will be returned to that group’s charity. The remaining 25% of tips will be divided evenly among all beverage stand groups.
What is the compensation for non-beverage stand shifts?
Volunteers working general shifts will receive $10 per hour.
